These exploration cards include numerals 1-10 with matching sets of spiders. We like to give cooperative groups of children these cards with no explanation beforehand. They are given time to talk and predict what we might be learning about today. They are encouraged to use their math talk. 

This is a fun game for the children to play after discussing how to match a numeral to a set. We like for the children to play the game in pairs, but it also works well with three children if you have an odd number of students. First, each child is asked to line up their web numerals in order starting with zero from left to right. 

Next, the children will put one or two sets of the spiders in the middle face down. Each spider has a set of colored dots. Children will count the dots to determine how many.

After they know how many are in the set of dots they will find the numeral web that matches and turn it over. If you only put one set of spiders in the middle, put the spider card back and play continues. If you put two sets of spiders in the middle have the child that drew the card keep it. If they draw a card that matches a web they have already turned over, they loose a turn. The object of the game is to turn over all of your numerals first. 

There are many ways in which you can use these materials. The children can work in groups to match a numeral to a set by paring up the cards. You can also put these cards into your math center for children to use during their center time.

We have included four assessments to meet the needs of your students. This is a wonderful addition for any teacher. This way you can assess the children based on their level of understanding.
Which Web is For Me?
This is a great assessment for one-to-one counting as well as numeral identification. The children will count the number of dots that are shown on the spider and then pick the web with the matching numeral. This will be the web for that spider!
Spinning Sets
This assessment is great for one-to-one counting as well as numeral writing. Children will count the dots on each spider and then write the numeral to match. We encourage our children to use their number line if they need help identifying the numeral or if they need to use a model to write the numeral correctly.
Spider Sets 0-10
Children will count the dots on each spider. They will find the correct numeral out the ones given and cut it out. They will then glue it next to the spider with the matching number of dots.
Spider Sets 11-20
This assessment is similar to the one above. It assesses numerals 11-20.
